Built on 235 sq. ft. of riverfront in Oakridge, this Transitional-style new home pulls together modern, rustic and traditional details to achieve both aesthetic and functional goals. The client dreamt of building their own home by the river while remaining resilient to weather challenges (on-site generator, propane on-demand hot water and fireplace, and flood and wildfire protection.) The main living space, master suite, and guest suite take advantage of the beautiful river views. See more about this project here.
We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Make-A-Wish Oregon to create a very special project for a very special kid. Daniel’s wish was to have a Bowser Castle-inspired playhouse in his backyard. (Bowser Castle is a destination in Mario Bros. video games). We constructed the entire playhouse in our shop, disassembled it, and reassembled it in the family’s backyard while Daniel was at school. Daniel was surprised with the playhouse when he came home from school on a Thursday afternoon.
Local TV station KEZI was on hand for the stunning reveal. To see KEZI’s coverage, our time-lapse video of the assembly of the playhouse, and additional photos, click here.
Because Square One Villages is working with volunteers in other cities to develop similar communities, the building was designed to be simple to build and uses common, inexpensive materials and systems. Additionally, the walls can be pre-fabricated off site, and if the plan is mirrored, it can be used to create a duplex.
We know Rainbow Valley partner Dana Tessler is a special person. Now the rest of Eugene does too, thanks to the Eugene Weekly choosing her as a “Happening Person” in a recent issue. Dana started as a once-a-month bookkeeper for us and was made a partner four years later. A life-changing experience spurred her to start a nonprofit to assist other parents. Read her story.
We love making space work better. These avid gardeners have a two-level patio that needed to be upgraded and reworked to be more livable in all seasons and better connected to their home and quiet gardens in their spacious backyard. Each level received updates, stairways, and steps that made enjoying the space so much easier. See the project details here.
Nicknamed the “Crow’s Nest” this guest cottage on an historic farm property in rural Oregon was built on the site of the original chicken coop. The cottage was designed to accommodate visiting adult children and their families, but also employs many “aging in place” principles to provide a comfortable living space for the clients in their later years. Siting takes advantage of a special location on the property, providing privacy but also farm and valley views and easy access to the main house. See more about this project here.

A cramped, poorly laid out kitchen and small, outdated master bath was almost enough for these homeowners to consider selling their home. Rather than leave their cherished neighborhood, they chose to remodel with us. In the kitchen, we moved the cooktop and wall ovens, reoriented and expanded the island, and created larger openings into the dining room and out to the patio. In the master bath we installed a more contemporary vanity, put in a modern, freestanding tub, and installed a steam shower. Now, these homeowners have their ideal home in their favorite neighborhood.
Some homes are designed from the inside out. Others, like this one, are designed from the outside in. Windows were placed to frame specific views and the home was oriented at just the right angle to power a solar array. A decade after the property was purchased, these recently retired homeowners are ready to sit back and enjoy the view.

Sometimes we all need a little home-away-from-home to relax in. Our client, a cigar and bourbon aficionado, wanted it to be in his backyard! So we built him a 267 sq ft “Cigar Shack” (or Man Cave, if you like) where he could do just that, whenever he wanted. Shouldn’t we all be so lucky? See more photos here.
