Herrmann Lake House

The clients came to us with a small 1960s cabin built on a coastal lake near Florence Oregon. It was dark and in need of repair and they wanted to remodel it into an inviting family retreat. They wanted to add a primary suite, make the kitchen and living areas larger and more functional, and they wanted the house to be lighter and brighter and take better advantage of the lake views.

We extended the footprint south and east, strengthening the connection to the lake. We added a welcoming entry and covered front porch designed to offer protection from the coastal winds. Behind it we added the primary bedroom and bathroom, both with large windows facing the lake. We vaulted the great room to give it a more expansive feel and added lots of windows to bring in natural light and views. The clients are accomplished cooks, so we designed a kitchen with plenty of room to prep and entertain. In the living room we created a fireplace surrounded with river rock handpicked by the clients. And for the back porch we created a comfortable, relaxing spot that feels cozy yet very connected to the surrounding landscape.

“As we embarked on our project, we knew selecting the right company for a major remodel was the most important decision we would be making. From the first meeting to the completion of the project, Rainbow Valley Design and Construction was fantastic to work with. Alec’s approach to design was creative, engaging and collaborative. He listened to our ideas, introduced unique design features and made sure we were completely satisfied before moving forward. Michael and Chris were true craftsmen in their approach to construction and quality finish work. We could not be more pleased with our beautiful lake house.”
