These longtime clients contacted us after buying a somewhat dated and dark Tuscan-style home. They wanted to freshen it up, put a primary suite on the ground floor, create an outdoor space where their kids and their friends could play, add a guest suite for visiting grandparents, and make spaces, indoors and out, where friends and family could gather.
The topography of the site was a challenge but we were able to carve out enough room to place a two-story addition on the northeast corner of the house with a garage and laundry room on the first floor and a guest suite on the second. We then had enough room for a primary suite and a small office in the old garage and laundry location. We updated the kitchen and family room with all new cabinetry, fixtures and finishes and added a built-in breakfast nook between the two. And to round out the interior, we added a curving bar to the little-used living room, with the curves of the bar playing off the arches of the architecture, creating an interesting and inviting place to entertain.
On the exterior we relandscaped the front of the house in a Tuscan style that enhanced the home’s appearance and made the entry more inviting. In the back we carved into the hillside behind the garage/guest suite addition to create a sport court, and next to that we added a patio with a wide, sweeping stair to the upper relandscaped yard. Past the stair, planters and sitting walls narrow the patio down to create a more intimate entertaining area. A new covered door and landing connects the space to the kitchen, and a glass covered cooking area encloses the end of the space giving it an interesting yet open defined edge.
We have a long history with Rainbow Valley using them for multiple remodels at our previous home. It was an easy choice to engage RV for this much larger project. The communication, attention to detail, commitment to making sure we were happy were all great. Alec has great ideas in the design process but also closely listens to make sure our “style” is incorporated. Andrew and his team created an environment where we could live as a family and minimized the overall disruption to our lives. In the end, we could not be happier. We would easily use RV again and have recommended them to several friends.
