South University Kitchen and Bath

This project is a kitchen and bath remodel to a beautiful 1924 gambrel-style home in the South University neighborhood.

The clients are great cooks and bakers and this active family of four with two young kids spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing meals, doing homework, hanging out. But the old kitchen was, well, old. It was poorly laid out, had fixtures and appliances from a bygone era, the cabinets didn’t function well, the finishes were worn, the lighting was poor, and access to the backyard was awkward.

We designed the new kitchen for ease of use, with plenty of room for the whole family to comfortably be in the space without tripping over each other. We put a large island in the center and lots of counter area around the perimeter. Storage, appliances, sinks, and work areas were thoughtfully placed, we created direct access to the backyard, and put a shoe cubby next to the backyard door and a second sink nearby to wash little muddy hands. Natural stone counters, walnut island, white farmhouse sink, and schoolhouse light fixtures complete the look and compliment the age of the house and the lifestyle of the clients.
