Stein Kitchen Remodel
As a sustainability consultant, it was important to Carolyn Stein that her kitchen remodel met her needs and values. The open layout, large island and cozy breakfast nook make this bright kitchen the gathering place of the home. Consistent with a green remodeling approach, the Steins retained their kitchen’s footprint, used regionally sourced materials, and reused everything they could from cabinetry to switch plates. They installed sustainable, formaldehyde-free poplar cabinets, used zero-VOC paint, installed energy-efficient windows, and chose countertops made of cement and recycled glass that lend a bit of sparkle to this clean design.
