Wells Remodel and Landscape

The clients wanted to make better use of their small and overgrown backyard to create more efficient, useable, and whimsical spaces to enjoy with their parents, kids and grandkids. In the front yard the clients wanted a covered entry and low maintenance plantings to enhance their street frontage.

In the living room we replaced a window with French doors, and outside the French doors we created a covered three-season deck with a gas fireplace, corrugated metal roofing, stained woof framing with exposed connectors, and striking tile around the fireplace to create an interesting yet cozy feeling for the space. And next to the fireplace we put in a “spy ladder” for the grandkids to peak over the wall at the street.

We also replaced a window in the kitchen with French doors and outside it we installed a large dining patio and used wood from an old barn on the clients’ daughter’s property to side the garage walls facing the patio and covered deck. Beyond the patio we removed trees to introduce more light into the space, allowing for smaller perennials and raised vegetable beds to thrive.  A cairn garden was created for the clients’ grandkids to experience nature play, and a small lawn was installed adjacent to the patio for both dogs and bare feet to enjoy. In the front yard, we added a covered entry and plantings that play into the classic symmetry of the home, but with a more contemporary and low maintenance palette of grasses, flaxes, and False Dracaena.

“Working with Rainbow Valley to remodel our vintage home was a wonderful experience. Their design embraced our vision. Their workmanship was superior at every turn. They listened. They kept us informed. They showed up on time. They are really good at what they do. We would work with them again in a heartbeat.”
